The “Pensioner Support Benefit” is a newly introduced program effective Oct. 1, 2019 when the consumption tax is increased from 8% to 10%. Under this new program low income pensioners will receive an extra amount on their pension to cover the increase in their living expenses.
Those eligible for this program have received an application form mailed in September. Please check the contents and return the completed form by mail.
◆Eligibility:
(1) Low income pensioners meeting all the following criteria:
- Those aged 65 years or older and are receiving the Old-age Basic Pension and
- those are exempted from the resident tax for 2019 and
- their previous year’s pension amount plus other income in total is not more than 879,300 yen
(2) Disability pensioners:
- Those receiving the Disability Basic Pension and
- their previous year’s total income is not more than 4,621,000 yen plus 380,000 yen multiplied by the number of dependents.
(2) Survivor’s pensioners:
- Those receiving the Survivors’ Basic Pension and
- their previous year’s total income is not more than 4,621,000 yen plus 380,000 yen multiplied by the number of dependents.
