Staff providing treatment at osteopathic and orthopedic clinics (known as “judo therapists”) and staff providing acupuncture, moxibustion and massage (known as “acupunctualist”), do not have medical licenses and are not qualified doctors. Thus, not all treatments are covered by health insurance, which you can use at hospitals. After visiting these clinics above, please make sure to get a receipt.
- Cases in which you can use health insurance:
— Injuries such as sprains and bruises
— Cases that would need further treatment by a doctor’s recommendation (The doctor’s written consent is required.) For instance, when you have a chronic pain resulting from neuralgia, rheumatism, frozen shoulder (shoulder pain, which happens to people in their 50’s and above), etc. and when you have a paralyzed muscle or stiff joint and need massage treatment
(2) Cases in which you cannot use health insurance (You must pay the entire amount at the clinic yourself.):
— Treatment for stiff shoulders, low back pain, etc. with no written consent by a doctor.
