To protect your life during a large earthquake, review the placement of furniture in your home and use brackets or other tools to prevent it from falling.
(1) Review the placement of your furniture. Pay special attention to your bedroom, where you spend the most time.
a. Don’t place anything near the entrance or exit.
b. Move tall furniture to a location where it won’t fall on you.
c. Don’t place heavy or large items around your head when you sleep.
d. Avoid sleeping near windows. If you can’t, move your pillow away from the window.
e. Keep picture frames and mirrors away from your sleeping area.
(2) Secure your furniture. Pay attention to all furniture.
During an earthquake there is a risk of cabinet doors opening and dishes flying out, or microwaves sliding off shelves. Be sure to take safety measures like securing furniture with brackets to prevent it from falling. You can buy these brackets and fixing tools at your local home improvement stores like Konan or Ayahadio.
