You never know when an earthquake may strike.
Depending on the time of day and where you are when an earthquake strikes, the actions you need to take will differ. Prepare in advance so that you can stay calm and take the appropriate action whenever the following situations arise.
◆ What Happens If an Earthquake Strikes During the Day?
(1) Your family members are all in different places.
(2) Trains and buses suddenly stop, and people are injured.
(3) As public transportation stops, it becomes difficult to get home.
(4) During meal preparation times, the risk of fire increases.
(5) There are few people in the neighborhood available to help.
(6) You may not know where to evacuate for safety.
◆ What Happens If an Earthquake Strikes at Night or in Early Morning?
(1) Lots of people are at home.
(2) People are often trapped under collapsed houses or furniture while sleeping.
(3) You will immediately need flashlights or other light sources.
(4) Finding and rescuing people takes time because of the dark.
※Please always be prepared, considering what you might need in case electricity and water are cut off and there is no help available. For example, stock up on “3-days’ worth of water and food” and prepare an “emergency evacuation kit” containing essential items. For further details, please visit the Minoh City website.
