When a big earthquake strikes furniture falling down can cause great injury and loss of life. Let’s rethink the layout of your furniture to protect your life from a big earthquake. Please prepare to prevent furniture falling down in advance.

◆Check the place of furniture
Check the bedroom especially carefully, where you spend the most time. Never place tall furniture around sleeping areas. You may avoid a serious injury by simply changing the location in the room where you sleep.
(1) Don’t place things near exits because things may fall and the door may not open during an earthquake.
(2) Move tall furniture to a place where it will be safe even if it falls over.
(3) Don’t put heavy or big items around your head in your sleeping area.
(4) Don’t display big pictures or mirrors around your head in your sleeping area.
(5) Don’t sleep near the window. If not possible, change the position of your pillow to be far from windows. Put slippers near your sleeping area to prevent injury from broken glass. Close thick curtains to prevent glass from scattering when sleeping. Store heavy things lower in your wardrobes so they don’t fall over easily.

◆Fix furniture to the wall
Especially check your kitchen carefully, because there are many dishes & electric appliances such as the microwave. Please make sure to fix furniture with fasteners or hooks. Tools such as fasteners and hooks to fix furniture are available at do-it-yourself stores (such as Kohnan, AYAHADIO, etc.).
