When a disaster occurs, it is important to confirm your neighbors’ safety and detect the people who need help quickly.

In Minoh City, “yellow handkerchiefs” (a big eye-catching yellow cloth or towel) are used to quickly confirm if residents are safe. Please put up a “yellow handkerchief” in front of your house, at the entrance for instance, if everyone in your family at home is safe and without injury after a big disaster. It informs neighbors, “Our family is all right!” at the time of disasters such as earthquakes. If there are no “yellow handkerchiefs”, people in charge of the safety confirmation of the resident association have to visit those houses, meet the residents and ask if they are safe. This takes a lot of time. If “yellow handkerchiefs” are used, the people in charge can confirm the safety of the resident quickly and easily. And more people’s lives will be saved. Please always keep a “yellow handkerchief” in a place where you can easily take it out.

In Minoh City, in preparation for a big disaster, a disaster drill is held on January 17th every year. Let’s join it on each place on Tuesday, January 17 2023.
