The Minoh Association for Global Awareness has been well known to the community as “MAFGA”. From 2018, a program “MAFGAKKO” has started hoping that children be interested in the world and work to create a friendly, comfortable community for all. In MAFGAKKO, a foreign resident will give lecture about the culture of their home country to children in the community. The aim is that the children who met the lecturer will learn how to sense with their ears, eyes, mouth and heart. MAFGAKKO also values the connection with people in the community.
In last year’s MAFGAKKO, the children met people with roots in Mexico, Russia, and Syria during the summer vacation. In the “Multiethnic Festival 2018” held in November, children planned and organized the Quiz Rally in the “Sekai-no AsoVIVA!” corner.
This year, we plan to hold the MAFGAKKO program every month on the first Saturday so that more children can participate. In the 7 sessions the 7 lecturers will tell about what they like, dislike, and talk about their countries. International students will participate as volunteers. With the big theme of “A livable city for everyone together,” we will make a large map with houses, streets, parks and buildings drawn on. In Malaysia, there are “no Durian areas,” but should this be on our map? We can discuss about such things with children. Join us!
