All Japanese residents aged 20 years old or older who live in Japan must pay the National Pension contributions. But students can postpone the payment (Special Payment System for Students). If you wish to pay later, please apply for this system.
◆Who this system is for:
– Students of university, graduate school, junior college, high school, technical college, or other various kinds of school (including night school and online school) who are 20 years old or older.
– Students whose income for January to December 2025 (such as salary) is less than a certain amount.
◆National Pension contributions which you can postpone payment for:
April 2026 – March 2027
◆Application:
– Applications can be done online 24 hours a day.
– Where to apply in person: Service counter for Health Insurance, Pension and Long-term Care Insurance at the Minoh City Office, Toyokawa Branch or Todoromi Branch
– Documents required: (1) personal ID (Resident Card, driver’s license, etc.), (2) Pension Handbook (“Nenkin Techo”), and (3) student identification card (valid for FY2026) or student registration certificate (issued in FY2026).
※You can pay the postponed National Pension contributions within 10 years. If you do not pay them, your pension will not increase. But the postponed period counts as a qualifying period for the pension.
