Points to consider when making an emergency phone call
- Please try to learn Japanese words and phrases such as your address. It will be helpful to you in emergency situations.
- If possible, ask someone who can speak Japanese to make the phone call for you. If this is not possible, please call the fire department and they can connect you to an instant multilingual translation service to help you. Please do not hesitate to call them.
- Please speak slowly and clearly.
- Please tell them your address correctly.
- Please call 119 for emergencies (connects to the North Osaka Command Center for fire/rescue) with a landline or a cellphone.
Calling an Ambulance
Please call an ambulance when you are unable to go to a hospital by yourself due to injury or sudden sickness.
- Call 119 (this includes cellphones)
- Say “Emergency (kyūkyū desu)” and explain the situation like this: “There is a sick person (kyūkyū kanja ga imasu)” “There was a traffic accident (koutsū jiko desu)” or “There is an injured person (kega o shiteiru hito ga imasu)” Then tell the staff your name, phone number, address (○○ Minoh City (Minoh-shi)), and a landmark (such as a big building that you can see).
*If possible, please explain the following: total number of injured people, gender, age, condition of the injured/sick person(s), the name of their main hospital. - Before an ambulance arrives, do the following things, if possible.
*Do first aid (such as CPR or stopping the bleeding).
*Wait for the ambulance outside of the building. - After the ambulance arrives, explain the following things to the paramedics.
*The circumstances surrounding the sickness or injury from when it started/happened to until the ambulance arrived.
*What kind of first aid you did.
*What illnesses the person has, and the name of the hospital that they usually go to.
In the ambulance there is a voice translation tool that supports 15 languages.
Calling for a Fire Truck
Please call for a fire truck in case of a fire.
- Call 119 (this includes cellphones)
- Say “Fire (kaji da)” and tell the staff your name, phone number, the address of the fire (○○ Minoh City (Minoh-shi)), and a landmark (such as a big building that you can see).
- Please continue to explain what is burning, and whether anyone is trapped.
- Until the fire truck arrives, please follow these steps:
・Shout “Fire! (Kaji!)” to your neighbors.
・If the fire is small, try to put it out with an extinguisher. However, if you feel it is too difficult to put out the fire, evacuate the area.
・When you evacuate, keep your body low to the ground and put a wet towel over your mouth and nose in order not to breathe in the smoke.
・When you evacuate, use stairs not elevators.

Going to a Hospital (on Weekends or at Night)
When you go to the hospital by yourself on weekends or at night due to sickness or injury, please call before you go if possible.
For internal medicine or surgery, please go to Minoh City Hospital. For minor illnesses, please go to your nearest clinic, if it is open.
For pediatrics (students junior high school age and younger), please go to the Toyono Wide Area Pediatric Emergency Medical Center.
For dentistry, please go to Minoh City Hospital (daytime on Sunday and public holidays)

Please call #7119, or 06-6582-7119, when you don’t know whether you should call an ambulance or not. The Center is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to everyone. Nurses or Consultants will advise you under the supervision of medical practitioners. There is a charge for the phone call, but you will not be charged for the consultation. For an emergency, don’t hesitate to call 119. (It is free and you don’t need to pay any fees for using an ambulance.)

Shouni Kyu-Kyu Telephone Consultation (Consultation by telephone for people who have a child)
Please call #8000, or 06-6765-3650, when you don’t know whether you should take your child to a hospital or not in case of sickness. The telephone service is available from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. of the next morning. There is a charge for the phone call, but you will not be charged for the consultation. Nurses are available for consultation under the supervision of medical pediatricians.
